Domestic abuse

Domestic Abuse can happen to anyone. It is defined as any incident or pattern of controlling, coercive, threatening, physical violence, threatening behaviour or abusive behaviour between intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender or sexuality.

We run two domestic abuse services in London, providing support, advice and protection from domestic abuse, for men, women and children: Domestic abuse is not just about a person hitting or threatening their partner. It can include a whole range of things including belittling, constant criticism, isolating someone from their friends and family, sexual abuse and financial control. It can take place in all sorts of relationships, including marriages and partnerships and between close family members. It often continues after a relationship has ended.

GPAHRC provide support to anyone who is a victim or survivor of domestic abuse.

When you contact us we will talk to you about your situation and agree what support you need. This can include anything from helping you through the criminal justice system, giving you information on benefits and housing, providing emotional support or referring you on for counselling. Your safety is of paramount concern to us and we will always do our best to help you form a plan that will help you feel safer.

Support can be offered on a one to one basis or in a group. If you don’t want to meet in person we can also help you over the phone or via email. The team of people who provide support have specialist knowledge and in-depth training. We also have good links with solicitors, counsellors and other specialist agencies.

Our team support both men and women who are experiencing domestic abuse.
